When Biscochito began offering Boulder in-home care in January 2025, the intention was rooted in connection: to bring the same loving-kindness care model trusted in Santa Fe and Houston into a new community—guided by relationships, not hierarchy.

By March, caregivers welcomed their first Boulder client. Since then, 16 caregivers have offered hundreds of hours of home care for seniors, supporting older adults who wish to continue aging in place with care that responds to real lives, changing needs, and personal rhythms.

At Biscochito, caregivers are not working alone. They are part of a shared circle—collaborating, learning from one another, and shaping care together. This community-powered approach allows care to remain flexible, creative, and deeply human.

Two stories from Biscochito’s first year in Boulder reflect what becomes possible when caregivers are trusted to lead with presence and imagination.

Dementia Support That Begins with Listening

One early Boulder client was living with later-stage dementia and had always loved musicals. Knowing that first meetings are especially meaningful in dementia support, caregivers partnered with someone near and dear to her to imagine a gentle introduction.

Rather than arriving with labels or expectations, caregivers came as friends who loved to sing. Together, they gathered on the front porch and sang songs from The Sound of Music. Neighbors paused to listen. Smiles spread. Applause followed.

In that moment, care was not about tasks—it was about familiarity, joy, and shared experience. This is how Biscochito approaches in-home care: by slowing down, listening closely, and allowing trust to grow naturally.

End-of-Life Care Held by a Circle of Caregivers

Another Boulder client required 24/7 end-of-life care over five months while navigating complex emotional and physical challenges. After being asked to leave a previous care setting, she wished to return home.

Before moving forward, Biscochito invited caregivers into an open conversation: Is this something you want to take on together? The answer was yes—grounded in compassion and collective responsibility.

With the client’s consent, caregivers thoughtfully developed care strategies and relied on one another throughout each day and night. Through constant communication—sharing observations, coordinating schedules, and offering encouragement—they created seamless care on call that adapted as needs shifted.

Because of this collaboration, the client was able to remain at home, supported by familiar faces and steady presence, until she passed peacefully. Someone near and dear later reflected on how meaningful it was to witness caregivers caring not only for their loved one, but also for one another and for the work itself.

This is non-hierarchical home care in action—care shaped by trust, shared insight, and teamwork.

Supporting Caregivers Strengthens Care

Biscochito’s holistic approach includes caring for caregivers themselves. One proud milestone in Boulder was awarding the organization’s first local caregiver scholarship.

The first caregiver hired in Boulder aspired to earn her CNA certification but could not afford the coursework. Supporting her education was a natural extension of Biscochito’s mission—investing in caregivers who show deep commitment to this work strengthens the entire circle of care.

Holistic Support Across Boulder County

Biscochito’s presence in Boulder continues to grow through collaboration with local partners, including TrailWinds Hospice and other caregiving organizations. Together, caregivers offer layered support—from transitional care that bridges hospital to home, to flexible care on call that supports continued independence.

Whether someone is seeking short-term support after a hospital stay, ongoing home care for seniors, or thoughtful end-of-life care, caregivers work together to meet each person where they are—physically, emotionally, and relationally.

As Biscochito continues growing roots in Boulder, the focus remains the same: community-powered care shaped by caregivers, grounded in loving-kindness, and responsive to real lives.
