Sarah Boses
I lead the healthcare advocacy and communication effort at Biscochito, ensuring that those we care for can heal and get the best outcomes when they seek and receive care.
I am dependable, determined, empathetic, persistent, passionate, adventurous, responsible, honest, fierce, loyal, generous, and community oriented.
The experience of growing up in a restaurant basically shaped every part of who I am. From a young age, I learned the value of working hard. I also learned the importance of teamwork and that no job is more important than another. It was in the restaurant that my life of service started. I loved it all. I especially loved the challenges and prided myself on having excellent customer service, even when I was still in high school.
Born and raised in Santa Fe, I dreamt of moving to a big city and going to college to study business. Both of my parents were self employed, small business owners and their path called to me as well. But the universe had other plans for me and I became a mom at the age of 17. I knew the weight of the situation I’d chosen for myself and my daughter and responsibility trumped my other dreams. I went to nursing school, knowing that I would always have a good job.
I graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in December of 2002. My adventurous spirit was ready for a change and I promptly moved to Florida, despite not knowing anyone in the town where I moved. I spent the first few years of my nursing career in the hospital, learning a lot about a lot of important things. It always felt important to me to have a strong, broad foundation of knowledge when caring for people. Ultimately, I left the hospital because it was an environment that did not feel conducive to providing care that was in line with my values both as a nurse and as a person. I accidentally happened into a job in outpatient oncology, which was one of many incredible gifts the universe has given me. I spent the last 14+ years working in oncology until late spring of 2021, from being a “chemo nurse” in the infusion room to being a survivorship nurse to building our company’s Integrative Oncology Program. The Integrative Oncology Program focused on bringing evidence-based modalities to patients during chemo and in survivorship such as yoga, acupuncture, massage, and nutrition. Caring for people with cancer diagnosis ignited a passion in me that nothing else in my career had to that point. It was an honor to walk that journey with families – as a caregiver, as a teacher, as an advocate – often into survivorship and sometimes to the end of their lives. This is a big part of what appeals to me about Biscochito – my goal in my work is always to help people live their best possible lives – a Total Life – knowing that looks different for everyone.
